Online Claims

The online claims system is for people who live in (or want to live in) the area covered by Sedgefield Borough Council. If you rent your home, or plan to rent, use it to find out how much rent you should pay, and how much Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit you may get. If you are an owner-occupier, use it to work out your entitlement to Council Tax Benefit. It will also tell you if you should claim other benefits like Income Support, Pension Credit or Tax Credits.

It delivers your claim electronically to an Assessor’s inbox within the hour. 

You, or someone acting on your behalf, can now complete a claim for benefit, here, online.  The system is intelligent in that it only asks you to answer questions that are relevant to you. For example, if you say that you live alone, no further questions are asked about a partner or children.

You will find out quickly in the process whether you are entitled to benefit. If you are not, you do not have to continue inputting information. 

This saves time both for you and the Assessor. 

If you are eligible for benefit, a two-page claim summary is sent electronically to an Assessor’s inbox.  You can print out the claim summary with a declaration form to sign and a list of documentation that we need.  If you cannot print these documents, you can ask us to send them to you.
