Welcome to Housing Services

The Housing Services Department has recently gone through a partnering process for the Repairs and Maintenance service. From 11th February 2008, all Repairs and Maintenance work will be carried out by Mears Ltd on the Council's behalf. This will not affect the way you will report your repairs.

In August 2008 our tenants voted to transfer their homes to a new 'not for profit' housing association, called Sedgefield Borough Homes.  For the results of the ballot and more information about this click on the Stock Transfer link at the side of this page.

The Housing Services pages include lots more information regarding the services we provide and now include application forms that you can print off, for a range of our services including an Application for Housing, Help with Garden Maintenance and Application for a Travel Permit.

We have now made it easier for you to find a place to live. We have links to information on every town and village in the Borough where we can provide housing. This includes information on schools, jobs, groups and societies, bus and rail travel. We have also provided information on the numbers and types of housing we have in each area so you can check if we have the right type of housing in the area you are applying for before you print off a form.

Why not order your repair online? We have recently introduced an innovative new system called 'Locator', which makes it easy for you to order your repair. All you have to do is point and click on the diagram of the item you need repairing and it will identify what the problem is and order the correct repair for you. It also gives you the opportunity to tell us when you will be in so that we can make a suitable appointment, which will then be emailed to you. This means you can now order your repairs 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

This website includes information about our Tenant Participation service, which has been awarded the Charter Mark for customer service excellence from the Cabinet office and also our Tenancy Enforcement team.

You can now view and download many of our booklets. For example, the Housing Allocations Policy, The Tenant’s Guide to Repairs and How we deal with Anti-Social Behaviour, to name a few.

We have links to other websites, including the Citizens Advice Bureau, Help the Aged, Durham County Council Social Care Direct and links to websites specifically for young people.

Please take a look around and tell us what you think by emailing us at: housingservices@sedgefield.gov.uk
