Creating homes that are suited to the specific needs of the people who live in them is important to us. It means that with the right kind of home, someone with a disability or mobility problem can continue to enjoy living independently. It can also make the role of carer easier if the right adaptations are provided.
We work closely with our colleagues in Social Services to provide adaptations from simple handrails, to major building work that provides a practical solution for someone with a disability.
Applicants for this type of work have to meet certain criteria but if you would like more information about home adaptations, contact the Durham County Council’s Social Care Department in the first instance and ask for an assessment to be made of your needs by an Occupational Therapist.
