LESSONS Continued

Here are examples of stages 5-8. View Stages 1 - 4  

Stage 5 people swimming

  1. Perform 3 different shaped jumps into deep water.
  2. Demonstrate action for getting help.
  3. Perform a horizontal stationery scull on the back.
  4. Perform a feet first sculling action for 5 metres whilst horizontal on back.
  5. Perform a sculling sequence with a partner for 30 – 45 seconds to include a rotation.
  6. Tread water for 30 seconds.
  7. Swim 25 metres backstroke.
  8. Swim 25 metres front crawl with face in water.
  9. Swim 10 metres breaststroke.
  10. Swim 10 metres butterfly.
  11. Perform a forward somersault, tucked, in the water.

Stage 6

  1. Swim 50 metres full stroke backstroke showing good technique.
  2. Swim 50 metres full stroke front crawl showing good technique.
  3. Swim 50 metres full stroke breaststroke showing good technique.
  4. Swim 50 metres full stroke butterfly showing good technique.
  5. Perform a movement sequence for 1 minute, in a group of 3 or more, incorporating a number of the following skills.
    • Sculling – headfirst, feet first;
    • Rotation – forward / backward somersault, log roll;
    • Floating – star on the front /on the back,
    • Tuck float, (mushroom) create own;
    • Egg beater – moving, lifting one or both arms out of the water link skills with strokes and sculls.
  6. Perform a sitting dive.
  7. Swim 50 metres continuously using 1 stroke.
  8. Swim 200 metres using 3 different strokes.
  9. Tread water using an eggbeater kick for 30 seconds.
  10. Complete an obstacle course (using minimum of 4 objects) with feet off the bottom throughout.

 

IMPROVERS

This stage is designed for all children who have achieved STAGE 7 and want to development their swimming ability further to stages 8, 9, & 10 for the national plan of teaching swimming.

Lessons will last a minimum of 45minutes.
